Training Overview: In this ½ day training program, participants will learn about the correlations between oral health and diabetes, and how providers can incorporate activities into their practice to address the unique needs of diabetic patients. Presenters will also discuss how the dental and medical teams can work collaboratively to provide a high level of interprofessional care for their patients. Specific guidance will be given related to periodontal disease , inflammation and treatment in both the medical and dental settings.
 

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the evidence for the reciprocal link been periodontal disease and diabetes
  • Demonstrate how medications can play a role in oral health
  • Outline what can be done in medical office to address oral health in diabetic patients (for medical providers)
  • Outline what can be done in the dental office to address patients with who have diabetes/pre-diabetes (for dental providers) 

Who Should Attend

  • Clinical Staff which include MDs, RNs, and NPs
  • Dental Staff
