Programs & Accomplishments
Medical Homes DCMedical Homes DC was created out of DCPCA’s determination to make sure that every District resident has access to quality primary health care – regardless of their ability to pay. We believe that Medical Homes DC is a compassionate approach to get our neighbors who lack adequate health insurance exactly what they need – access to primary health care, when and where they need it. We aspire for everyone in our community to be covered and cared for, and uphold that anyone can become a partner and help with this mission. Initiated in 2004, the Mayor, the Office of the City Administrator, the DC Office of Planning, and the DC Council, as well as the DC Department of Health and other District agencies, entered into a public-private partnership with DCPCA’s Medical Homes DC initiative. We expect to improve the health of our community and reduce the cost of health care delivery in the District by dramatically increasing the number of low-income residents who have established – and use – a medical home on an ongoing basis. Goals of Medical Homes DCWe wish to expand safety net health care services for DC residents, while also improving quality care and increasing efficiency and cost-effectiveness for our members. Medical Homes DC is working to improve the health of our low-income population and reduce the cost of health care delivery in the District by increasing clinic space by 200,000 square feet and providing high quality care to the most vulnerable DC residents. Research clearly demonstrates that providing high quality, evidence-based preventive care is a critical factor in helping people live healthier lives. We encourage and support the health care safety net services in providing care based on the current standards of practice.
