Interim Chief Executive Officer


John Mathewson has been retained to serve as interim President & CEO of the DC Primary Care Association (DCPCA) while the Board conducts a search for a permanent lead executive. John previously served on the Board of DCPCA and has an extensive career of leading health care organizations to operate market responsive services, build new care models, open new markets, implement value based purchasing, and leverage new technologies.


His career passion of serving individuals and families through innovation and impacting the social determinants of health has come from diverse business experiences in C-suite roles with managed care, hospitals, home care and consulting in non-profit, for-profit publicly traded, and private venture organizations. These experiences give him a rich history of working with physicians and providers across the spectrum as well as building high performing teams and strong financial management. Most recently he was Executive Vice President of Strategy and Operations for the HSC Health Care System in Washington, DC, where he oversaw all subsidiaries as well as served as a member of all its operating boards including its health plan, hospital, home care agency and foundation operations. In the past, he has also held leadership roles at Kaiser Permanente, CIGNA Healthcare, Prudential, as well as other C-suite and top marketing officer positions for diverse health care organizations. A recognized leader, he has served on multiple boards for business and national industry organizations, and consulted for numerous organizations.


John has a Master of Health Services Administration degree from The George Washington University and a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Howard University.
