In her remarks, Ruth emphasized the vital role that students can contribute to the advocacy and research necessary to create health equity and increased investment in primary care. She highlighted the need to reposition primary care as the foundation of an integrated, value-based healthcare system focused on preventive care, care coordination, and addressing social determinants of health.

"We ask that you research and analyze the social drivers that affect primary care," Ruth said to the students. "By collaborating with your peers from diverse fields, instilling values of primary care in the next generation, and learning from seasoned primary care leaders, you can help influence policy and advocate for equitable access to healthcare.”

Ruth outlined strategies for elevating primary care, including investing in workforce development, leveraging technology and data analytics, and fostering community partnerships.
